UKRAINE REFUGEE CRISIS APPEAL
Thanks to your support we provided food, shelter and assistance to hundreds of refugees and families arriving at the Ukrainian Romanian border, just 3km from our project in Siret, Northern Romania.
Siret border became the main crossing point for Ukraine’s refugees fleeing into Romania in 2022. Hundreds of thousands of women, children, elderly & people of all nationalities arrived via Siret Border crossing who needed urgent assistance, food & shelter.
Although numbers arriving reduced significantly after March 2022, we continued to provide assistance when needed whilst maintaining our usual activities where possible. By 20 March 2022, 470,000 refugees were estimated to have crossed into Romania via Siret border crossing in the month after the invasion. Siret, a town with a population of 8,000 became the main host and transit point for these refugees entering Romania.
Our Trustees and Committee Members in U.K. are in regular communication with our partners in Siret to keep up to date with the impact of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine on our activities and the local community.
We supported our sister, Romanian reg. humanitarian organisation, Scoala Pentru Viata, partner agencies, local community and our beneficiaries where possible, and provided contingency funds for the projects future needs during the crisis. Any remaining funds has gone to the ongoing work of our charity.
Siret is a Romanian border town with a population of approx. 8000. This was a fast moving crisis, and had a major impact on the local community who continue to provide ongoing support to refugees arriving via Siret Border and experience the continued impact of the conflict.
Over 99% of all donations go directly to our projects in Romania – all UK admin costs, travel, visits etc are privately funded
