About Us - The Romanian Team
The Scoala Pentru Viata Team Based In Siret
Elena Harasemiuc - DIRECTOR
Doina not only directs the work but gives much inspiration, motivation and guidance to the staff and residents alike. She has worked with the children and young people at the neuro-psychiatric hospital for 23 years, and is now really enjoying her work directing Scoala Pentru Viata. She is very much supported by her husband Radu who volunteers his time and expertise in business to help the project obtain the resources and contacts they need.
Cornelia Petrasuc - Director of Education
A qualified teacher, experienced in working with a range of abilities, has worked with the foundation for the last 10 years. She directs the educational / activity programme of the project, oversees the teachers work and teaches a group of mixed abilities at the foundation. Her work involves developing their play, independence, social, relational and communication skills including verbal communication.
Angelica - Qualified teacher who has worked with Scoala Pentru Viata for over 10 years and previously worked in the neuro-psychiatric hospital helping with education for those most capable. She now works with a group of the girls at the foundation with independence and social skills helping them to integrate in the community.
Carmen and Mariana are both teachers who are experienced with special needs. Their work is based in the adult institution where most of the young people still live. This work is vital to ensure that continual work takes place with all the residents some of whom are unable to leave the grounds. The vast range of abilities both physically and mentally makes their work very challenging. We hope to provide extra teaching support for this vital work.
Rodica is our well loved nurse who works to support the residents and young adults who come to the centre. She speaks of the need to put your heart and soul into the job, as she seeks to support both medically, practically and emotionally.
Olga has been with Scoala Pentru Viata since it began in mid 1990. A teacher for many years with these young people Olga has given much experience and expertise. Now retired she continues to give friendship and support to the residents who live there.
The Residents Of Scoala Pentru Viata
Each resident grew up in the psychiatric hospital and even with the poor conditions and deprivation they experienced they developed abilities and skills which are a vital part of the work.
Rodica works with the girls with sewing, helping with basic skills and independence. She relates well and attests the teachers with great skill and understanding of the work. She is well liked and much appreciated in the team.
Lenuta relates really well to the boys, she enthusiastically demonstrates the gym equipment and helps with all physical exercise. Another well liked member of the team who has gained confidence and learnt how much her opinion matters.
Dana and Viorica have lived at the foundation and gained employment in the local community. They have shown how de-institutionalisation is possible with the right support and now have many friends in the community of which they are very much part.
Left, but not forgotten.
Veronica, the founding director of Scoala Pentru Viata met her husband when he was a volunteer in Siret and helped to establish the work. She is now retired from teaching and living with Martyn in Worksop.
